Who said that milkshakes are just for summer? I believe that good food should be shared and enjoyed all year round. So, I think that it only makes sense to share with you my sister’s favourite strawberry milkshake recipe. This was originally made by my nephew, Bo, last year for Mother’s Day. He was determined to make a pink milkshake to give as a present, so we kind of just threw all the ingredients into a blender to see what would happen. The result… A truly scrumptious drink. Perfectly creamy, more than a little indulgent, and everything a milkshake should be. It’s fair to say that it definitely went down well! Although, he did drink about half of it, you know, just to check that it was alright before he gave it to her.
Since then, it’s become a firm favourite in our house, especially during the summer months. This year, when I asked him what he wanted to do for Mother’s Day, he simply said ‘make mummy’s favourite pink milkshake’. I think that we have a little tradition on our hands!
What’s Better Than A Few Sprinkles?
But this year, he wanted to go one better… And what’s better than a few sprinkles here and there? This cup is possibly one of my favourite things… ever! It looks pretty and as a bonus, you can even eat the sprinkles after. It may look complicated, but in all honesty it’s so simple. All you basically do is dip the rim of the glass in some melted chocolate, and then quickly dip it into your pot of sprinkles. The melted chocolate will act like a glue, to stick the sprinkles to the cup. It really is that easy. And it looks pretty impressive too. In the end, we were left with a very impressed 5 (and ¾) year old.
The most important thing with this milkshake is to make sure that you have good quality ice-cream; the creamier the better, but of course you can use dairy free if required. This drink is thick, creamy and perfectly pink. So really, it is the perfect Mother’s Day treat. It’s fun to make, but a little word of warning from experience: if you have little hands helping, then half of the ingredients (mainly the ice cream), will magically disappear once you look away.
Thick, creamy, and delicious, not to mention that’s it’s perfectly pink! This strawberry milkshake is the perfect little tasty treat to share any day, but Mother’s Day, just gives us a good excuse to make it!
Created by Bo, I hope you enjoy his ‘mummy’s favourite pink milkshake’, just as much as we do!
