I love quick and easy recipes. The ones that you can whip up in about 30 minutes for a wholesome and hearty meal that leaves you feeling full up and satisfied. Food that’s full of flavour and can only be described as delicious. These are without a doubt my favourite type of meals. So today I’m sharing one of those very recipes. An absolute favourite in my house, that goes down well every single time. A basic homemade tomato sauce. I know, you can’t really get more basic than that!
Perfectly saucy and bursting with flavour, this is a classic meal that can be made in under 10 minutes. Stirred into pasta or piled on top of rice, you can keep it plain and simple or use it as a base for all your favourite ingredients. You could add some meatballs or beans (chickpeas, butter beans) to add a little more protein to the dish.
One of the things that I love most about this sauce is just how cheap it is to make. All the ingredients are pretty much basic cupboard essentials, so you won’t have to go and hunt down any bizarre overpriced ingredients. In this recipe I’ve used stock powder, but if you can’t find that or have no idea what I mean, then you can just use a stock cube. It’s basically the same thing.
Described as ‘delicious’ and the ‘best thing ever!’ by one of the fussiest 6-year old boys I’ve ever met. He claimed it was the best food he’s ever had and proved it with an empty plate at the end of the meal. Trust me, that’s both a rarity and a very good sign.
You can even make this in big batches and store it in the freezer for an even quicker weeknight meal. Perfect with a touch of basil and a sprinkle of cheese.
