I once read that if you’re buying gluten free food then you should aim to buy the one that has as little ingredients as possible; with 6 or less being the ideal number. But when you look at gluten free bread, you’ll be lucky if you find one that doesn’t have about 20 ingredients, is pumped full of rice and normally contains some form of molasses or another strange addition. The massive amount of random ingredients, combined with the strange candy floss texture which coats your mouth, makes for a loaf that is not very nice!
Since I became gluten free, I’m constantly trying new things. New food in an attempt to fill that big empty hole where gluten used to live. It’s one of them things that you don’t actually realize how important (or tasty!) it actually is until you can no longer have it, and find yourself craving all the food that you can no longer eat.
As part of my new diet I’ve had to abandon so much food, most of which I completely love, and feel like I’m basically starting over again in terms of eating. There were so many different things that I was just starting to enjoy, and for the first time I really fell in love with trying new and different flavours.
But OMG, I’ve found the best thing ever. Are you ready for this? Buckwheat! It may seem pretty basic to you, but for me, this is kind of a big deal! I don’t think that I ever would’ve tried it before my diagnosis. And it’s quickly growing into one of my favourite things, and I get really antsy if I find that I’ve run out of it.
I use it in granola, salads, as a side for dinner, hey I’ve even tried buckwheat porridge. I just love it so much, and it makes missing Cous Cous and Bulgur Wheat so much easier! It has a slightly nutty flavour, is really diverse and is quick and easy to make. Basically, a massive winner all round!
Oh my god. I’ve fallen in love! I feel like I’ve been looking for the right one for so long, but have just never found it. I’ve gone through so many in the past, and although they may have come close, none have ever been good enough. But now, the search is over. I didn’t think it would happen, but I’ve done it. I’ve found the one. The most amazing, perfect BLENDER!
Before you say anything, no, I’m not weird. But finding a half decent blender is hard enough to do. So, finding one this good, (and cheap) is absolutely amazing. I’ve gone through so many in the past that I was starting to think that they were disposable. They blew up on me, started to smoke and smell, or just generally gave up and randomly stopped working. And because they were cheaper ones, they were never really that powerful. Nice cream was near on impossible, and my smoothie bowls had to have so much liquid added to them, to make sure that they’d blend, that they turned into fruit soup! It’s fair to say that it was more than a little bit infuriating.
