I think that this is one of my favourite manicures, possibly of all time. It’s fun, quirky and perfect for Halloween. And, best of all – although it may look a little complicated – this manicure is so easy to do!
I think one of my favourite parts of this look are the eyes. They remind me of something out of Scooby Doo, sneaking around with something sinister lurking in the dark. This simple eye design can be worn all by itself – and create quite an impact – but I chose to pair it with a statement ‘Mummy’ nail to add an unusual twist to the manicure.
This statement nail is definitely the trickiest part of the look! I wanted the mummy’s ‘bandages’ to look old and worn. And, after a lot of trial and error I think I’ve finally got it, all with a little help from some gold nail varnish and a disposable mascara wand!
Please don’t feel intimidated by the small details, such as the lines of the bandages. They may look super complicated but are really simple after a little practise! I used a nail art pen to do this, which has a fine tip – almost like a pen, and honestly, it was so easy to use.
One of the most important tips I can give you for this manicure is: practise using the nail art pen on paper first. Grab a sheet, rest your elbow on a hard surface to help keep your hand steady and practise drawing the small lines and using different amounts of pressure. It may seem silly, but it’s much easier to mess up on paper than having to start the entire manicure from scratch! The same goes for the eyes.
Time to complete your Halloween look and have all eyes on you!

All Eyes On You Halloween Nail Art Tutorial:
Ever get the feeling you’re being watched?!
What You Need:
- Clear Base Coat
- White Nail Varnish
- Black Nail Varnish
- Metallic Gold Nail Varnish
- Black Nail Art Pen
- Clear Top Coat
- Blunt Pencil
- Clean Mascara Wand
- Cotton Bud
- Nail Varnish Remover
Getting The Look:
- Apply a clear base coat to all nails and allow to dry
- Once dry, take your white nail varnish and apply two thin coats of varnish to the ring fingers ONLY. Remember to allow the varnish to dry for 2 – 3 minutes between coats
- Next, use your black nail varnish and apply 2 thin coats of colour to your remaining nails. Again, remembering to allow the nail varnish to dry between coats.
- Carefully clean up any mistakes / smudges around your nails with a cotton bud soaked in nail varnish remover
Eyes:
- Once the black nail varnish is dry, paint the tip of the blunt pencil with the white nail varnish and press lightly anywhere on your nail to create a dot. Repeat this step fairly close to the first dot to create a pair of ‘eyes’. You might want to practise on a bit of paper first to get the right amount of pressure.
- Repeat on all your black nails, varying the placement as you go.
- Allow to dry
- Once the white circles are dry, use the black nail art pen and lightly press inside the white dots to create eyeballs. These can be placed anywhere inside the white circles, it doesn’t matter if the black dots aren’t perfectly in the centre. Repeat this step on all of the white spots.
Mummy Finger:
- Take the clean mascara wand (I used a disposable one) and dip into the gold nail varnish, wiping any excess varnish on the side of the pot. Lightly brush onto the white ring fingers to create a mottled effect. This step is quite messy but you can clean up around the nail later.
- Once the gold is dry take the black nail polish and swoop it across the nail to create a rectangle-like block in the centre of the nail. While this is drying use the nail art pen to draw small lines across the nail. Try and change the direction to help represent bandages. Don’t worry if the lines aren’t perfect!
- Once the black varnish is dry, grab your white polish, blunt pencil and nail art pen to paint ‘eyes’ onto the black section in the centre of the mummy. This uses the exact same method as before.
- Finally, apply the clear top coat and clean around the edges using a cotton bud and nail varnish remover. Now, all that’s left to do is impress everybody with your spookily good manicure! (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself!)
