Chocolate Fudge Runny Icing

Chocolate Fudge Runny Icing

Made with only 3 simple ingredients, this runny chocolate icing is fudgy, simple and quick to make. I love to add this to the top of a chocolate cake or spread on top of my chocolate pudding squares recipe. fudge

This fudgy chocolate icing is made from only 3 simple ingredients: cocoa powder (dairy free if required), icing sugar and water. Place the icing sugar and cocoa powder together into a small bowl. Add in water a little at a time, adding any extra as needed. Mix together with a metal spoon until you have a smooth runny consistency. You can make it thicker by adding some extra icing sugar or runnier by adding extra water. If you accidentally make it too runny don’t worry, it’s easy to fix – just add more icing sugar to thicken the mixture. When this is done, it’s ready to be poured on top of the bake. fudge

I only add a little bit of water as I like to keep it quite thick, but it’s still able to ‘run’ and cover the cake. The recipe below creates quite a dark, fudgy, chocolatey icing, however if you like something a little lighter than feel free to reduce the amount of cocoa powder used. fudge

With any chocolate recipe that asks for cocoa powder I would always recommend buying the best quality cocoa powder that you can, and always opt for cocoa powder over hot chocolate powder. It adds a better, stronger flavour to your bake and better quality powders are often easier to blend and don’t leave any grainy textures in the cake. fudge
