These little jam swirls are the ultimate snack; they’re perfect as part of a brunch spread or a little afternoon treat. 

My top tip would be to make sure that you use a smooth jam. Any flavour will do but I love to use seedless strawberry. Smooth jam makes it a lot easier to spread. It also means that you can add a little bit more jam to the swirls, always a bonus. 

The recipe is so quick and easy to make, especially as it uses ready made puff pastry as the base. All you have to do is get the pastry out of the fridge for roughly 10 minutes to warm up and gently unroll. Then, cut into strips which are roughly 5CM wide and as long as you like. Add a generous layer of jam and roll the pastry from top to bottom to create a ‘swirl’.

Once you’ve rolled the swirls, you need to wash the pastry. The wash is a really important step because it helps to give your bake that brown colouring and ensures you end up with crispy pastry. You can either use an ‘egg wash’, where you whisk an egg and gently rub this on the top of the jam swirls. Or a ‘milk wash’, in which you brush milk on top of the pastry shapes. Although they will both give the same results and is just a matter of which ingredients you prefer to use.

Finally, place the pastry swirls on your pre lined baking tray, wait for them to turn golden brown and enjoy! It really is that simple and the whole process, including waiting for the pastry to warm up can be done in under an hour!

  • Pre Made Ready Rolled Puff Pastry
  • Seedless Strawberry Jam
  • 1 teaspoon Milk


  • Remove the pre made pastry from the fridge and leave to sit for roughly 10 minutes, meanwhile preheat your oven to 180*c Fan Oven/200*c/400*f/Gas Mark 6.
  • Remove the pastry from the packaging and cut into strips which are roughly 5 cm wide.
  • Add a generous layer of jam along the length of the pastry strips.
  • Roll the pastry into a swirl, starting from the top to the bottom.
  • Place this directly onto a pre lined baking tray.
  • Using a pastry brush, ‘brush’ a light layer of milk on to the jam swirls.
  • Place in the oven for roughly 20-25 minutes, or until risen and a nice golden brown.
  • Once removed from the oven, allow them to fully cool down.
