Rose Buttercream Swirl - Cupful of Sprinkles

The classic rose swirl was the first piping technique that I learnt. I remember how proud I was when I made my first successful swirl, it looked like a perfect little rose on top of the cupcake!

The theory and practicality of this decoration is really straightforward and it’s a lot simpler than it looks. The most important thing here is to make sure that your buttercream is the correct consistency . Too runny and it will fall out of the bag and lose its shape and too thick it will be impossible to pipe. In order to get the rose shape, the piping nozzle that you use is super important, my favourite is the Wilton 2D (2D Wilton Flower Nozzle | Lakeland).

Start from the inside and swirl your way out. The hardest part is making the ending look nice and neat, just slowly remove pressure and keep swirling, if you need to, you can always flatten it down with your finger.

For this video, I’ve used my Classic Vanilla Buttercream Recipe, and have added a subtle shade of pink and dusted with a little bit of glitter to finish off.
