Revlon Insta-Blush Review

March 19, 2019

Revlon insta-blush review - Cupful of Sprinkles

Revlon Insta-Blush, ‘an instant kiss of colour – anytime, anywhere’. Well, at least that’s what their website says. This versatile blusher can be used ‘anywhere’, either on your cheeks like standard blusher, as a highlighter or to help with contouring. It’s also meant to be used ‘anytime’, not only meaning it’s suitable for day to night but also, thanks to its compact design you can pop it in your bag ready to top up your makeup wherever your day takes you.

Application

The Insta-Blush comes in a creamy stick, which is so different to any blusher I’ve tried before! For cheeks, I’ve always used a powder-based product, so the idea of not sweeping it on with a brush was quite alien to me. But, WOW, it was so, so, so easy to use! After removing the lid, just wind the blusher up a tad using the base, draw a streak across your cheekbones (and anywhere else you’re applying it to) and blend, blend, blend. Then your good to go, it really is that easy!

Another thing that surprised me was the texture. We’re promised a ‘cream-to-powder’ finish, and if I’m honest I was a bit sceptical this blush would reach my expectations. The stick itself is what you’d expect, light, creamy and it slides onto the skin evenly with no problems at all. It was the ‘powder’ finish I was worried about, I imagined that it would dry into patches of blusher that looked a bit crumbly, if you know what I mean. But, I’m pleased to report I was very wrong! The powder finish, looks like any other blusher and seems to blend into skin seamlessly. So far I’m very impressed…

One of of the most important things to remember about this product is that as it’s a cream-based blusher, you apply it after your base (foundation, BB cream, concealer etc). But before your powder. I know that may sound a little strange because it normally goes on top, but the powder helps to set the blusher and keeps it in place for longer. Don’t worry though, the blusher does still show through!

300 – Rose Gold Kiss

I used ‘300 – Rose Gold Kiss’, which looked the perfect colour for me. Light pink, with a little shimmer and sparkle. It looked like it would perfectly compliment my quite pale skin tone, and add a subtle touch of colour to my cheeks. Even though it is advertised as being ‘sheer’, I was a little disappointed with how sheer it was; the colour was non-existent, and not at all like the stick! You could barely see any colour just a very subtle golden sheen – more like a highlighter than a blusher. I even tried it on the back of my hand, and still you couldn’t really see it.

Now, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. One of my pet hates are tide lines and bright pink cheeks where they clearly haven’t been blended properly! But I must admit that I was looking for something slightly more visible, and was a bit disappointed at first. I tried to build up the colours in layers, but even then I was only left a slightly glossier shimmer. In my opinion, the pink didn’t show through at all. However, this does make it a lot easier to apply. Especially for beginners as the colour is so subtle you don’t have to worry about applying too much!

Mistake Proof

Revlon claim it’s mistake proof, and it really honestly is. The formula blends so easily and the colour is so subtle that I think it would be near on impossible to go wrong with this. It’s soft, sheer with a nice creamy texture providing, as they say the perfect ‘kiss of colour’. If you’re a bright blusher type of girl, then this product is not for you. But if you prefer the natural look, then I think this is a winner. It’s soft, subtle and gives you a light dab of colour with a perfect little shimmer.

Honestly, would I recommend this or buy it again? I think that that I would. After wearing it 2 or 3 times, the natural, shimmer effect did start to grow on me and I can see myself using this a lot during the summer months. Mainly because it was just so easy to apply – which will be especially useful on busy mornings! I also like the fact that it’s not overly red or pink, and just leaves your cheeks looking fresh and healthy. I also loved the fact it wasn’t ‘heavy’ it just blended into my skin leaving my cheeks looking naturally glowing – just as Revlon promised!

Remember to apply after your base layer and put your powder on top. Super simple, beautifully subtle adding the perfect glow to your cheeks.
